CS for ATL
The CSforATL initiative is part of a national effort funded by the Kapor Center for Social Impact to support and bring coherence to computing education in select major urban centers – Atlanta, Oakland, and Detroit. It is part of the ongoing effort of President Obama’s CSforAll initiative and designed to ensure that high quality computing education is built into the infrastructure of American public education in a manner that it is fair and just.
CS for ATL, run through the Constellations Center, is a consortium of the 8 school districts that comprise the metro-Atlanta region serving approximately 570,000 thousand students – Atlanta Public Schools, Clayton County, Cobb County, Decatur City Schools, DeKalb County, Fulton County, Gwinnett County, and Marrietta City Schools. In conjunction with district superintendents and computing and STEM education leaders, the goal is to align academic standards and advise policy structure to ensure that all students have equal access to high quality computing courses. Additionally, the effort offers the opportunity for cross-district collaboration and professional development to address the broader challenges of shortages of computing teachers in public schools and in the AI era, the ever-shifting issue of what they ought to teach.
